Is being a "good" person good enough for God?

As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: (Rom 3:10)

They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. (Rom 3:12)

They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. (Psa 14:3)

For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not. (Ecc 7:20)

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. (Jam 4:17)

Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God. (3Jo 1:11)

So do you still think you’re a “good” person? God says in the Bible that NO ONE is good. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (1Jo 1:8 )

So what do you do now? It’s not hopeless! God knew that man could not keep the Ten Commandments on his own. Man kept failing and kept sinning. God loves His creation so much, He provided the solution. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (Joh 3:16)

Jesus Christ left Heaven to take on human form to become the perfect and sinless sacrifice which was needed to be the atonement for our sins. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. (Rom 5:11) When God sees Jesus’ shed blood covering our sins, all He sees is His Son’s righteousness and His judgment passes over us. That is why Jesus is known as our Passover Lamb. This is why the Jews celebrate Passover. The plague of death would pass over any Jew’s home whose door posts were covered with the blood of a slain spotless lamb. Therefore, our punishment for our sins and the judgment of burning in hell for all eternity was taken upon Christ as our Passover Lamb.

When we accept Him as our Saviour, His blood “covers” us and God’s judgment passes over us. Oh what a beautiful picture! Oh what a wonderful Saviour we have! So what must you do? There is only one Saviour. There is only one way to Heaven. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (Joh 14:6) Not Buddah, not Allah, not Mary, NO OTHER but Jesus. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Act 4:12)

Jesus told a well-known religious leader that he must be born again. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. (Joh 3:3) It’s not difficult – it’s very simple. When you are born of your mother, you come into this world with a desire to sin – you can’t help it! Your mother did not have to teach you to do wrong – but she did have to teach you to do right. You now must admit that there is no way you can stop yourself from sinning. Punishment for even one sin is burning eternally in hell. God is holy and cannot accept any sin in heaven. Now know I that the LORD saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand. (Psa 20:6)

You must be born again? HOW? By admitting that you are a sinner in need of a Saviour. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (Rom 10:9) For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Rom 10:10) If you believe that with all your heart and say so, you can be born again. Pray to the Father asking forgiveness for your sins. Accept Christ’s sacrifice for your sin as the ONLY way to Heaven. Determine in your heart to turn away from sin from this day forth. Now that you are born again, you are a new person. Your desires will change – Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2Co 5:17)

If you don’t change, something went wrong. Your prayer was not sincere – you merely tried to prevent yourself from going to hell and wanted to continue with your current life style. God says you will become a NEW CREATURE. After salvation, God gives us the ability to sin less and less.

Peter said it well in his letter of 2 Peter 1:1-4: Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: (1) Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, (2) According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: (3) Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
