A Psalm of praise.
1 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. 2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 3 Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5 For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
Although I have heard this Psalm used mostly for encouraging the believer to go to church, I was impressed this morning with the Psalm having “more to it.” Yes, we need to be in church, there is no questioning that. Church is where we are given meat from the Word of God by God’s man! Church is where we worship together as a family. Church is where we can praise the Lord collectively! However, as we read God’s Word, we see repeated situations where these gatherings were done to open up God’s Word to learn. Yes, we should be digging into our own Bibles at home and getting our meat from the Word but not every believer is studious. Sometimes a Christian’s only “meat time” is at church. This isn’t anything new as it was going on in the early church as well.
~Hebrews 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
As well, when you get right down to it, we should be conducting “church” in our personal lives all the time. After all, now that we have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us, we are God’s walking-breathing-in the flesh tabernacle. Just as God resided in the tabernacle in the Old Testament, He resides within us, an earthly tabernacle. We have the awesome privilege of meeting with Him at any given time! We have the wondrous blessing of communing with Him any time we want! How wonderful is that?
~2 Peter 1:14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
Daily we should be sing Psalm 100 aloud!!! Daily we should be making a joyful noise unto our Lord and King! Our time with Him should be a mini church service. Singing Psalms – glorifying His name – worshipping Him – digging into His Word and receiving meat for our spirit!!! Each morning, we can enter into His gates with thanksgiving! We should be thankful that we do not have to travel to His courts but can enter His courts at any given time! Oh praise His Holy Name!!! Yes! The Lord IS good and His mercy IS everlasting and His truth DOES endure!
Bless the Lord, oh my soul, and all that is within me bless His Holy Name!!!
