~Matthew 7:21-24 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
A born-again believer has no problem doing moral inventory on his spiritual walk. In fact, staying on top of our sins (keeping a short list so to speak) is good for us. We acknowledge our sinful nature before a Holy God and we rely on Him to mold us into the image of His precious Son, Jesus Christ!
But to the “religious” person who claims he is born again, today’s Scriptures make it clear what will happen when he meets his Maker. Jesus made it clear that the path to Heaven is narrow and difficult and there would be few who would find it.
~Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Religion can lead people straight to Hell if one isn’t careful. It is God’s Word that is pure and full of truths! Is it any wonder that Jesus told the people of His day that there would be many going down the path of destruction but yet believe that their religion was good enough? In fact, their religion was so good that they did some of the same wonderful works of the true Christian! Today’s text is enough to cause anyone to do moral inventory and to be certain they are truly born again and not just being a religious person!
There’s nothing wrong with the born again believer doing this moral inventory. It helps us recognize that salvation is of the Lord, not of ourselves, and it keeps us focused! We acknowledge that we are vile sinners but by the grace of God, we are saved!
~Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Have you truly been renewed by the Holy Ghost or are you just religious? Good question!
