Day-by-Day – Day 63 – Choice

~Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

When speaking with people who are “religious” and who have not been spiritually born again, I find that many look upon themselves as good people. The measuring stick they use to measure their spirituality is the world. But the Word of God says that everyone’s heart is desperately wicked. Surely this is not a good way to measure one’s own “goodness”!

So with what/whom should the religious measure their spiritual condition? One can only measure spirituality in light of God’s Word. Only God is perfect. When we realize that God is the one we should measure up to, then our hearts are in a condition ready for salvation. We can look at people around us all we want but we will never be better than they are or worse than they are. Why? Because the Word says:

~Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Why would a carpenter use a tree limb as a measuring stick? There is not a tree limb in the world that is perfectly straight. Anything he builds will not be level. Instead, the carpenter uses a plumb line and a level to make sure that everything is straight. The Word of God is our plumb line. We are not to compare ourselves to someone else’s spirituality. This is where man fails to see his lost condition. The longer one stays in this condition, the harder it is to see the blessed light of the Gospel.

~2 Corinthians 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

The Gospel to the lost is foolishness. They think that Christians are maniacs or religious fanatics. How sad that the god of this world would blind them so completely!

~1 Corinthians 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

~1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

It comes to a point in a person’s life that they are too far gone and just cannot see their lost condition. The sad thing is that they will die in this condition and blow hell’s gates wide open. How thrilled the devil is to take as many with him to the Lake of Fire as he possibly can. It is not a laughing matter. It is not a place where you can join your friends and have a party. It is a real place that Jesus prepared for the devil and his angels. But unrepentant man will go there because of his choice. Where will you choose to spend eternity?

~Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

It is your choice!

“Is sin so luscious that you will burn in hell forever for it?”
Charles Haddon Spurgeon
