The 1994 Catholic Catechism says:
“The task of interpreting the Word of God authentically has been entrusted solely to the magisterium of the Church, that is, to the Pope and to the bishops in communion with him.” Pg. 30, #100
Can only the pope and the magisterium of the catholic church interpret the Bible? What does the Word say?
It is considered noble to search the Scriptures: (Act 17:11) These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. How many times have you searched the Bible for things about what you are taught by your church?
(Mk 12:24) And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
Why would Jesus admonish the Sadducees because they didn’t know the Scriptures if it was impossible for them to? And why did your “first pope” Peter say, (2 Peter 1:20) Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
Why does Paul instruct us to study the Bible if we can’t interpret it? (2 Tim 2:15) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Why does Jesus tell the Jews to search the Bible in (Joh 5:39) Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. Why would He do that, if you couldn’t interpret them?
The catholic church does not want you searching the Scriptures because they don’t want you to know the truth about how to truly be saved. They want to hold you in bondage so that you keep turning to her for your answers.
Who really does the interpreting for us? The Holy Spirit – not a church or a preacher. Jesus said He would leave us the Comforter (the Holy Spirit) who would teach us all things because the Holy Spirit teaches TRUTH! (John 14:26) But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. and (John 16:13) Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
The Apostle Paul says that it was the Holy Spirit who taught him. (1 Cor. 2:13) Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. and (1 Cor. 2:12) Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Why would we encouraged to memorize the Scriptures if we couldn’t understand them? (Ps 119:11) Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. and (Prov 7:2-3) Keep my commandments, and live… write them upon the table of thine heart.
We do not need anyone to teach us because we have the Perfect Teacher, the Holy Spirit. 1 John 2:26-27 says These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, andye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie , and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. (emphasis mine).
Why would a church discourage you from being in the Word? Why would you be taught in a catechism that only the pope and the church leaders can interpret when the Bible (even your own catholic bible) states otherwise? You are easily fooled because you have allowed the largest organization in the world to fool you. God’s Word does not deceive but leads a soul to the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In its pages are truth because God wrote these words and God cannot lie.
Psa 119:97-99 O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. (emphasis mine)
This does not sound like a God that wants you to have someone else chew His Word and digest it. Our God wants YOU to do it. Don’t be lazy, man! Dig in the Word of God! Stop criticizing me and saying that I am interpreting the Word of God “in my own way” and dig into it for yourself and let God speak to you? Are you afraid that you might find out that your church has been wrong all these years? I challenge you to use that brain that God gave you and study the Word for yourself!
