First of all, NEVER speak badly about your husband to your daughter. Always point out his good side to her. You didn't mention if your husband is saved. That makes a big difference. Were you saved after marriage or did you marry outside of God's will (marrying an unbeliever)? If you did, you must ask God to forgive your rebellion against Him and repent of that sin. That takes care of your heart :-)

Then I would begin praying and asking the Holy Spirit to open the door for you to speak with your husband about this. After all, she IS his daughter and he loves her. Wait on the Lord for this open door. Then when you see that he is having a tender moment, you can go to him with your petition. Ask to speak with him about an important matter regarding his daughter. Tell him how hurt she gets when he yells at her and ask him how he thinks YOU should handle it since you are her parent also. Tell him it is difficult for you to sit along the side lines listening to him verbally abuse her without protecting her. See what he says first.

If his reply is a negative one, I would suggest you counsel with your Pastor. If at any time your daughter is in danger of physical abuse, you MUST remove her from the situation. After, work toward reconciliation with your husband but only with conditions: he seek counsel for his anger (maybe he was raised this way), the two of you counsel on parenting, etc. Then bring your daughter back into a safe environment.

If your husband is not saved, and it sounds as if he isn't, pray - pray - pray!

Thank you so much for this. I have a question though...when my husband is been verbally and emotionally abusive to our 5-year-old child, what should I do? She looks up at me with tears in her eyes, completely crushed and calling out for me...what do I do?? I feel as though I am turning my back on her and destroying the trust she has in me because I am trying to be submissive to her tormentor. Please help.....
